My experience at The Law Society

Whilst studying part-time for the LPC, I worked full-time at the Law Society's Accreditation Department. I was also an Employee Forum Representative.

The Law Society is the independent professional body for solicitors and where newly qualified solicitors usually go for their graduation upon qualifying! Fridays were the graduation days and it used to get super packed.

Within the Accreditation Department, I first started as an Administrator and then progressed to Technical Coordinator. There are various specialist accreditations solicitors and law firms can apply to receive. I initially worked on the Conveyancing Quality Scheme (CQS) and Clinical Negligence. Looking for more areas to grow in, I inherited Family Law and Children Law Accreditations too.

I had a lot of 'client' contact as I was communicating with law firms daily as an administrator. We had monthly team meetings and monthly 1-2-1s where our performance was being monitored to check whether we were on target and identify and points for development.

As a Technical Coordinator, I had access to highly confidential data about law firms and solicitors. This data was used when I assessed an application to either accept it or reject it with reason. I was also to shadow the in-house legal team for a specific Accreditation related claim against the Law Society.

Continuing to develop and grow, I applied to become an Employee Forum Representative meeting every month to discuss what updates are going on in the organisation, what employee issues are being raised and bonus talk!

Overall, I learnt SO much and enjoyed my time there but I knew that I wanted to work at a law firm and moved on after I completed the LPC.
