Hiya!
I realised that I haven’t posted in the new year despite it being on my mind for a long time! And that is how long January feels like it has been going on for…
It’s been such a busy start to the year with the following keeping me busy:
My 9-5 paralegal role – Following the Xmas break, things took time to get back on track. There was a lot of chasing up with different transactions and then suddenly we are exchanging and completing on matters! We are also hosting several events at the firm so business development is definitely at its finest!
January = DEADLINES ! As you are aware, many firms have 15th January or 31st January as their vacation scheme and training contract applications deadlines. This is time-consuming alongside my job and just surviving January :p
Networking – I’m trying to get back into attending events, especially firm event. This gets tiring after a long day at work and then concentrating at an event and networking with other professionals…but it has to be done! I did my first ‘Day in the life’ on Instagram which you can view on my highlights here
Writer at The Student Lawyer – I currently interview students, trainees and lawyers to invite them to share their advice and reflections on their journeys which can be of benefit to other aspiring lawyers! You can find my recent interview here
With all of the above in mind, I’m also aiming to reflect on my own goals and set intentions every month. January consisted of applications, surviving everyday because of the chaos but also taking time to just breathe!
With all of this going on and trying to continue working hard, I received 2 rejections from firms, both submissions within January – competition is high and applications are hard work (!)
Usually, my Sunday evenings consist of planning ahead for the week. I like to have some downtime because I know the week will be busy and tiring. I’ve also learnt to say ‘no’ when things get too much because I have been taking on too much and wouldn’t want to cause disruptions to others.
