Are you starting your Law degree in September or returning for our third or final year? This post is the perfect one for you.
Here, I share my top tips for LLB students to keep you focussed and stress-free:
Essential reading - setting a good foundational understanding of the content will help you in the long term and especially for your exams! Attempt completing all the essential reading, highlighting your books, making notes, tabbing the important stuff! When it comes to exams, you would have made the process that much easier for yourself!
Attending and participating in seminars/tutorials - these are extremely important for consolidating your knowledge and asking your tutors any questions you may have. The exam questions will be based on your seminar questions so this is good prep!
Past papers - Practice makes perfect. A good 'taste' of your exam is through past papers/specimen papers. Set yourself an afternoon without distractions and in timed conditions to really give you that exam feeling and test what you need to improve on.
Brief cases - Case law will be your new best friend - most of the law in the UK system comes from case law as well as statute. Know the facts, identify the issues in the case and the reasoning of the decision by the court. For the most important cases, create revision cards to help you get through the majority and test your knowledge.
Stay organised - the content you will learn in a given year will be a lot and needs filtering through. Keep your notes organised, make use of folders and tabs.
Make use of your careers services - this is highly important and helps you put things into context - WHY are you studying law and what would you like to do after you graduate. Keep an eye on the bigger picture and get your CV updated!
Enjoy the experience - you'll only go through this once so enjoy it whilst it lasts! Studying law is stimulating and requires a lot of energy but the university experience is a fun one - you'll miss it!
