Volunteering Opportunities

Hi peeps!

It's been a while since I've shared something. The recent occurrences have meant that time out was much needed for reading, educating oneself and showing solidarity. I think this is a journey that I am still on and hope to continue to grow.

I know that many students are either in the process of sitting their exams or have completed their exams and have a lot of free time. I often get asked how students can undertake work experience and I thought I would share some volunteering experiences:

  1. Citizens Advice - I volunteered as a Gateway Assessor both in person and over the phone. This gave me invaluable insight into areas such as housing, welfare benefits, debt, employment to name a few. I would assess the client's situation and ask the relevant questions to agree on the best next step to advise the client on. This would either be an appointment with an adviser or to signpost the client to a specialist organisation that can assist them better. If you would like to know more, please click here.

  2. Young Women's Trust - this is a Charity that is close to my heart as I am grateful for the help they have provided me. YMT provides free coaching services, application reviews and CV reviews for young women aged 18 to 30 living in the UK. I highly recommend you check out the services they provide if you need help during this time. Recently, the opportunity to participate in a six-week challenge to raise awareness on the services they provide. If you want to find out more email info@youngwomenstrust.org and visit their website for more info!

  3. Urban Lawyers - Another great charity that is aimed at making the law accessible to people from non-traditional backgrounds from across the UK but primarily London and the East Midlands. Recently, Will Marsden reached out to the Legal Twitter community to ask if you would be willing to help in virtual networking programme or mentoring sixth form students. If your are committed or interested in opportunities that increase accessibility for students from diverse backgrounds, I highly recommend you get involved!

I am sure there are more opportunities out there, but I thought I would share the top three that I am aware of and have experience with. Please let me know if you have any questions or want to know more!
